Leadership Camp is an hands-on, three-day residential camp designed to motivate and inspire teen girls to become self-confident, courageous and compassionate leaders in their communities, according to MAFE. Leadership Camp empowers girls with the self-confidence to lead, the spirit to give back to their communities and the awareness to live a healthy and balanced life.

“We believe in helping girls become strong, confident leaders who reach for their own dreams and are committed to making the world a better place,” said Tonya McNeal-Weary, executive director for MAFE and the Y.E.S Leadership Camp. “Through this extraordinary program, girls walk away inspired and motivated to take on leadership roles and grow through positive self awareness.”

Participants will receive training in areas such as teamwork, communication, diversity cooperation, problem-solving and conflict resolution. Girls also will learn about diversity and respect, and gain greater awareness of global issues including world hunger, poverty and sustainable development.

“At the end of the program, participants are encouraged to use their experience to create positive change by implementing a community service project or starting a social enterprise to address some of today’s global issues,” McNeal-Weary said.

Participants will also have an opportunity to win a $500 grant to support their project.

The program fee is $175 and includes round trip transportation, three nights lodging, meals and snacks, program activities, program materials and supplies. A limited amount of full scholarships are available, courtesy of this year’s scholarship sponsor, Eileen Fisher, and the  Activating Leadership Grant Program for Women and Girls.
