UPDATED: Deadly Explosions Rock Boston Marathon Finish Line

"It's quite horrible," one of two Ferndale residents signed up to run the famous race says of the scene Monday in Boston.

Ferndale residents were among among those registered to run the Boston Marthon on Monday, when at least two people were killed and dozens were injured following two explosions at the finish line, according to a story on the Chicago Tribune website.

Ferndale residents Karen Costakes and Michael B. Discenna were registered in the race, according to the Boston Athletic Association website.

"I'm okay," Discenna posted Monday on the Ferndale Patch Facebook page. "Finished in 3:05:53 and made it out about 45 before the blasts. Still here and it's quite horrible."

Google has set up a Boston Marathon Person Finder page to help locate marathon runners who have not yet checked in with loved ones. There are two main buttons: "I’m looking for someone" or "I have information about someone."

The explosions happened about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line and had people carrying bloody spectators into the medical tent set up for runners, according to an Associated Press report on the Pocono Record website.

NBC News reported fire engines, police and emergency medical personnel were headed to the scene.

An affiliate reporter told NBC News she heard two loud explosions, and that "everybody kind of ducked and hit the ground," and Jackie Bruno, reporter for New England Cable News said she saw people with significant injuries, including one person with a leg blown off.

"Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror," Bruno said.
