UPDATE: Power Restored in Ferndale

As many as 600 were without power in Ferndale Saturday afternoon due to high winds. As of Sunday evening, power was restored.

The power in Ferndale appears to be restored, according to the DTE Energy power outage map.

The map indicates that only 2 customers are without power in Ferndale and only one of those customers is in the outage area caused by Saturday's high winds. The outage area is north of Woodward Heights, between the railroad tracks and Hilton.

The outage hit around 2:30 p.m. Saturday when Ferndale residents started reporting outages on Ferndale Patch's Facebook page. It knocked out as many as 602 customers in Ferndale and as many as 605 were without power Sunday afternoon.

DTE Energy Spokesman John Austerberry said that there were 56,000 without power in the DTE service area on Saturday. That number was reduced to 17,000 by Sunday afternoon.

"I can't really tell you specifically about Ferndale, but we had about 56,000 outages yesterday," DTE Spokesman John Austerberry said Sunday afternoon before power was restored to Ferndale. "We're trying to get everything restored as quickly as we can."

Austerberry added that DTE brought in 35 crews from Toledo and other local contract companies to assist in the restoration.

This outage comes about six weeks after another storm blew through Ferndale, . Also on July 20, Ferndale experienced another multi day outage due to malfunction in DTE equipment. during one of the hottest periods in southeast Michigan in 15 years.
