Christmas is Over – Now What Do I Do With My Tree?

Find out how to recycle your Christmas tree in Ferndale.

Christmas is officially over, and if you had a real tree this year, you may be scratching your head wondering what to do with it now.

Luckily, Ferndale residents have more than one option for recycling their Christmas trees.

The Ferndale Department of Public Works will collect your Christmas trees if they are placed curbside on your regular refuse day.

Oakland County will also accept your Christmas trees at its self-serve Christmas tree recycling locations.

Christmas tree recycling is available at 11 Oakland County Parks from Dec. 26 through Jan. 13, 2013, seven days a week, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. All decorations must be removed from the tree.

Extended collection dates are available at Independence Oaks in Clarkston and Orion Oaks in Orion Township, which will accept Christmas trees until Jan. 27, 2013.

The trees will be processed to make compost and wood chips that will be available to the public free of charge at Orion Oaks County Park in 2013.

Additionally, if you visit DestinationOakland.com and select "Christmas Tree Recycling," you will receive a free white pine tree seedling in the spring from the Oakland Conservation District.

If you have any questions about curbside collection in Ferndale, call the Department of Public Works at 248-546-2514.
