This One's for the Mamas

An ode to my beautiful wife for Mother's Day.

This week was really dedicated to appreciation of the kids moms because of the coming celebration of matron-hood.  I, for one, am glad my daughter is blessed with a caring, attentive, and beautiful mama.  My wife does so much for our daughter and loves her (big as the sky) while still holding a full time job as a nurse where she takes care of all sorts of other people's kids.  This blog post is really for her more than anything else and will probably make her tear up, but not in a bad way.  I just want to also say I appreciate her and everything she does even if she is sometimes a little bit difficult (like when she makes me find her clothes in the morning knowing full well I have no idea what she has worn earlier in the week nor if things match.  I'm not color blind, I'm just clothes-lazy --- and uncoordinated.)

In honor of all that, I wanted to share with you an interview that the teacher at preschool had with Lilah about her very own mama:

My name is Lilah.  I'm 4.  My mom's name is Auntie Allison.  I don't know how old she is... 35, I think.  My dad's 47. ("37 or 47?") 47.  Her favorite color is red.  Her favorite food is bananas.  When I'm at preschool, she's at work.  She takes Rob to his work.  ("What makes mommy special?")  She's not special, she's real.

So, a couple of things - Allison is my wife's name, though she certainly isn't Lilah's aunt (though with cousins nearby, this makes sense as her answer.)  35?  She was only off by 10 years.  Strangely enough, I'm about to be 27 so she was off by 20 for me.  Allison's favorite color is blue, so ya know red's close...  and she absolutely despises bananas and only eats them because they are good for her.  I think the only thing I was really surprised about was that Lilah didn't mention how mama helps the doctors at work because that's all she talks about when we're home together.  And, though someone said they'd cry if their kid said they weren't special, I think you just have to know the child you're dealing with.  Lilah has a lot of special toys that are all make believe so I think she has just made the two things synonymous.  I assure you she thinks her mama is special, just not pretend.

'Til next week.  Have a happy mother's day and, husbands, remember to appreciate your wives and give your moms a phone call.
