The Birthday Without End

Lilah's birthday celebration.

Well, spring break is over even though Lilah does only have one day of school this week since there will be a field trip on Thursday she isn't going on.  Today at school was Lilah's birthday celebration.  It got pushed back with the VIP night and spring break so it's a ways away from her actual birthday which was the 24th of March.  I've been referring to it, affectionately, as "the birthday without end" because there just seems to be yet another birthday related thing for her every time I turn about.  Luckily, however, this school celebration should be the last one.

Being the birthday family, snack fell to us today so my wife put together these great platters of mini bagels, cream cheese-stuffed strawberries, and grapes.  Then (if that wasn't enough), we topped things off with a dessert of apple tarts with the apple on the top rolled in to roses.  Everything was a hit and I just had to keep telling people I would pass on how much they liked it because I had virtually nothing to do with the food making (apart from helping stuff the strawberries.)  People, for their part, were not surpised I had nothing to do with the snack which I'm gonna try not to be offended by.

Because she was birthday girl, Lilah also got to be the magic apple.  She found the blue oval with relatively less help than I thought she would need and had weather bear wear a snow suit because it was raining, but the rain was cold.  I couldn't fault the logic, but that's mostly because I don't know that she ever wears her own rain slicker (though she has a pretty awesome one that I bought her last year a few sizes too big so she would grow into it.)  She also chose a visor aptly with planets on it because it's outerspace week.  She then proceeded to wear it with the bill pointing up even though she has never seen an episode of Fresh Prince.

Because Lilah is now 4, she had to have her 4 year check up with her doctor just last week as well.  Lilah really likes going to the doctor and was very excited about it.  Usually, she doesn't complain about shots, but this time - - well, let's just say five shots is hard to ignore even when you're being told you won't have to get anymore until you are 11.  When my wife asked Lilah what happened at her appointment, Lilah was prompt to reply "I got poked!"  and then proceeded to say a different doctor had done the poking than her actual doctor.

With all that fun behind us, it's time to get ready to wind down the school year.  I'm not sure when their last day is, but it feels like it is rapidly approaching and I'm staring to worry about exactly how I'm going to occupy Lilah all summer.  Maybe some of her friends will be around.  Who knows.
