Back to School

Back to school and the holidays.

Lilah started back to school today.  She's been asking to go back since Sunday because we told her she would be starting back up this week and now she finally gets to go.  I think what I'm beginning to be able to tell about her is that, like her mum, she is just not much of a morning person.  I got her out of bed this morning and she groggily slipped out of bed (literally, slipped and nearly fell on the floor) and then said to me "Can I wake up now, daddy?  I was just laughing at my forest friends."  Her forest friends are special wall stickers we got her with squirrels, owls, mushrooms, trees, etc.  This is actually try number 2 on the forest friends because the first set got ruined when she tried to move them and ended up getting rid of all the sticky (saddest day of my life with Lilah having to have a funeral for those friends.)

She stumbled down the stairs and refused to eat and got mad at me when I tried to get her dressed, but once she was ready, I couldn't move fast enough for her (another way she is like her mother.)  We packed her hat, boots, and Totoro gloves that her mum knitted for her and then we got ready and went.  She seems to really be falling right back in to it, which is nice.  I was worried it might take a minute to come back to her.  I know it has taken a minute to come back to me since I had check and double check that we had everything (I still had to come home for snow pants and take them back up there) and I had to check what time I need to drop her off and pick her up.  I never have had much luck with breaks.  I remember I used to forget my locker combination over Christmas break all the time.

Luckily, the holiday wasn't too hard because we kept pretty busy.  Lilah's Uncle Nick visited for the week of Christmas and my parents were here for a little bit, so we got to spend a lot of good family time and then we spent the New Year in Chicago with my dad where Allison and Lilah had their annual American Girl lunch, which I drove them to.  If you're ever looking for a bad idea, try driving downtown Chicago on New Year's Eve - I think it took me 45 minutes to go something like 10 miles.  Lilah also got a ton of cool Christmas presents that she has just been enthralled with so that makes it nice because I don't have to worry as much about her boredom.  I don't know what her favorite thing she got is, but mine is probably the train set her Uncle Nick got her.
