DETROIT PISTONS AND YMCA OF METRO DETROIT JOIN THE SAME TEAM

Dec. 5, 2013 - FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons and Metro Detroit YMCA are teaming up to promote health and wellness throughout Metropolitan Detroit and host YMCA Nights at The Palace, giving children participating in the Y’s sports programs a chance to see the Pistons in action this season.

The partnership between the Pistons and Metro Detroit YMCA will feature YMCA Nights at The Palace – Feb. 1 when the Pistons face the Philadelphia 76ers and April 5 when the Pistons battle the Boston Celtics – with an invitation for every child participating in Metro Detroit YMCA’s Sports Programs or the Y’s summer program to attend those games and get a post-game shot and photo on the Pistons court.

“The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and the Detroit Pistons are committed to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility,” said Reid Thebault, YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit President and CEO. “This partnership is a win-win for both organizations and, collectively, we can work together to increase opportunities for physical activity and healthy living for all.”

Pistons players will also promote health and wellness in a series of public service announcements and appearances for the Metro Detroit YMCA. The Pistons are also donating $5 for every ticket purchased by Metro Detroit YMCA members and staff to the YMCA.

The Y has served Metro Detroit for over 160 years and is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Throughout Metro Detroit, Y’s engage more than 300,000 men, women and children – regardless of age, income or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the region’s health and well-being and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

“The NBA partners with the YMCA to encourage kids to be physically active and this partnership between the Pistons and the Metro Detroit YMCA is an extension of that,” said Charlie Metzger, Palace Sports & Entertainment EVP and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. “We look forward to using this great platform to share our message of teamwork, exercise and good nutrition to YMCA members and Pistons fans throughout the region.”
