Weekend Planner: Stay in Ferndale and Enjoy some Shopping and Holiday Fun

There are some heavy shopping days up ahead, such as Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday. In between is Small Business Saturday.

Small businesses in Ferndale also are offering their own deals for Black Friday and beyond. For example, check out Modern Natural Baby for 10 percent to 20 percent off marked items on Friday and Saturday. Enjoy some great door prizes, too. On Sunday, the natural baby shop is offering a 20 percent off sale on toys.

Support your community, get some special offerings and enjoy the weekend shopping around town.

• Why go: Typically open just Saturdays and Sundays, Rust Belt has opened its doors Friday evenings for holiday shoppers. Rust Belt will offer entertainment and drinks for Black Friday. Also, join the market for a holiday party from 6-10 p.m. Dec. 9, complete with a temporary liquor license, DJ, raffles and bands, according to the venue's website. The Ferndale market supports local artists as they launch start-ups and operate small businesses.

• Why go: For every $25 spent, choose from getting a $5 gift certificate or $5 off purchases. Spend $50 or more, and break up the amounts into more gift certificates to use as gifts, owner Janie DeJaeghere said.
• What else: DeJaeghere said the store will open at noon, and will stay open as long as necessary to serve customers.

• Why go: Treat Dreams will be giving one $10 gift coin away for every two $10 coins bought. Also available, check out the new "Pure Michigan" Build-A-Gift-Basket section of the store featuring great Michigan gourmet products. The ice creamery will have baskets, shred, shrink and bows; you just pick and choose the items!
