Weekend Planner: A Crazy Amount of Holiday Goodness

The choices are endless for weekend holiday fun.

There is no need to sit still this weekend. A variety of holiday events await you: fun, funky, family-friendly and decidedly Ferndale.

For example, the has transformed its studio into a vintage Christmas wonderland. Come in starting at 4 p.m. today for food, drinks and a chance to win a gift basket during the . And if handmade gifts are your thing, check out Naka starting at 6 p.m. for an event that has a charitable twist.

Check out our lineup of some of the more out-of-the-ordinary events small businesses are offering, or take a gander at these events, which include a pancake breakfast to start out a busy Saturday, the Holiday Ice festival and more:

  • Where:
  • When: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: Find the perfect teacher gift, stocking stuffer or addition to your own tree at Naka's very first Ornamentacular! Catch a glimpse of 12 of Michigan's finest as they present their version of the perfect holiday ornaments.
  • What else: Naka will be donating $1 from every ornament sold to Gleaners Community Food Bank, enough to provide 3 meals to a local family in need.

  • Where:
  • When: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday
  • Cost: $8 for adults, $5 for children 4 to 10, free for children 3 and younger.
  • Why go: Start your busy day of holiday events off right with a hearty breakfast including: pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Proceeds will benefit Ferndale Rotary Club's Local Community Projects.

Holiday Ice & Winterfest Market

  • Time: 4-9 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Ferndale, west Nine Mile Road
  • What's happening: The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with the opening of the Winterfest Market on East Nine Mile featuring a five-story Ferris wheel, a train, a local green's market and tents filled with local artisans and their holiday decor.

  • Time: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Where:
  • What's happening: Holiday Ice hits the streets with fantastic Michigan on Ice themed-sculptures by World Champion Carver Tajana Rakaur. The North Pole will be located at Planavon and West Nine Mile where kids can talk to Santa and pose for free photos. Also on hand, Santa's reindeer and free hayrides.

  • Time: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where:
  • What's happening: Check out another day of ice-themed sculptures, Santa, reindeer and free hayrides.

  • When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
  • Where:
  • Cost: Admission is $1 for adults, and children 10 and younger get in free
  • Why go: The Ferndale Secondary-PTSA will be hosting the bazaar, which offers holiday shopping, gifts, arts and crafts. Plenty of delicious food items will be on hand for patrons, including a famous PTA bake sale. The proceeds from the fair will go directly to the Ferndale Secondary PTSA, which in turn helps fund various school programs, events and scholarships. Strollers are welcome!
