Weekend Planner: Dress Up, Get Out, Give Back

Drive your hooptie, dress up for comedy and give back to children's organization this weekend.

There's plenty to celebrate this weekend before the big day Oct. 31. For starters, check out the first Woodward Nightmare Cruise for ugly cars 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

But that's not all that's in store. Check out some more events that have been planned for the weekend leading up to Halloween.

  • Where:
  • When: 6:30-8 p.m. Friday
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: Tricks, treats and activities -- and Dan the Creature Man! Costumes are encouraged and families are invited to drop in any time between 6:30 and 8 p.m.
  • What else: Stop by the library’s Youth Reference Desk or call 248-546-2504. Registration ends Monday. The library will be collecting candy donations for this event.

  • Where: 
  • When: Midnight Friday and Saturday
  • Cost: $5
  • Why go: Stage Fright tells the story of a theater staging Dracula. When the zombie apocalypse threatens to halt the production, everyone must band together to make sure that, above all, the show must go on.

  • When: 10 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday
  • Where:
  • Cost: If you go to the 10 p.m. All-Star Showdown ($15), Stage Fright is free.
  • Why go: It's a showdown! Get prizes for sexiest version of a non-sexy thing, nerdiest costume and thriftiest costume. Plus, drink specials and if you stick around for the midnight showing of Stage Fright, it's free!

  • When: 1 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Luxury Lanes and Lounge
  • Cost: Each bowler is asked to raise a minimum of $50 in pledges, which will provide the participant three games of bowling, shoe rental, food and beverages.
  • Why go: Prizes will be raffled off and funds raised will go to help Ferndale Youth Assistance. The event is one of the two most important fundraisers each year for FYA, a charitable program that works with the schools, the local district courts, parents and the city and county government to assist youth with a variety of programs.
