Weekend Planner: Film Festival, Zoo Event, Parade and More

There's plenty to do in and around Ferndale this weekend, so plan to join the fun.

  • What: Comedian Amy Schumer's blend of wholesome looks and edgy comedy has earned her a rapid rise in the comedy world. She was most recently the stand out of Comedy Central’s Roast of Charlie Sheen. She guest-starred on the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm and will be recurring on the new season of Adult Swim’s Delocated. This year she filmed the feature Seeking a Friend for the End of the World starring Steve Carell and Kiera Knightley and an independent feature Price Check opposite Parker Posey.
  • When: Friday, two separate shows at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
  • Where: in Ferndale
  • Cost: $20

  • What: The second annual weekend event showcases Michigan-made movies with premieres, awards and other special events. Check out a full lineup here: . Included is at 11 a.m. Saturday.
  • When: Friday and Saturday
  • Where:  and , downtown Birmingham
  • Cost: Tickets for individual shows will be available for purchase at uptownpalladium.com beginning Thursday. All shows cost $10 each, while the Detroit Music Awards cost $5 for attendees.

  • What: Beat the winter blues this season during Wild Winter Weekends at the Detroit Zoo. Wild Winter is a unique, fun way to experience the magic of the Zoo in winter. Enjoy your favorite habitats indoors and out along with special activities including children’s music, zookeeper talks, crafts and much more.
  • When: Saturday and Sunday
  • Where: Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak
  • Cost: Free with admission: $15/ages 15-plus, $8/ages 2-14.

  • What: Come out to celebrate as the Norman O'Brien Division of the Ancient Order of Hiberians hosts the Oakland County St. Patrick's Day Parade.
  • When: Begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Arrive early for a good spot to watch the parade.
  • Where: The parade begins at the  parking lot and proceeds south on Washington, passing the judges/announcer reviewing stand at the intersection of Sixth and Washington before turning west on Seventh and ending at the  parking lot.
  • Cost: Free and open to all.
