Photo Gallery: Frying Up Paczki for Fat Tuesday

Apple Fritter's staff stays up all night making the annual treats.

Ferndale's is expected to sell 600-700 dozen paczki, according to Josh Urban, the owner's son. "We'll be open all night," he said Monday evening, the day before Paczki Day.

Urban said that Paczki Day is Apple Fritter's busiest and most profitable day of business. "We make in one day what we'd make in about two months," he said.

By 7 p.m. Monday evening, Urban said Apple Fritter had already made 300-400 dozen paczki. Although customers were coming in and out of the store at that time, Urban said he expects to see the paczki really start to move about 5:30 a.m.
