Nominate the Best Business that Defines Ferndale

Let us know which business in town best defines the community spirit of Ferndale so we can put it to a vote and name a Readers’ Choice 2012 winner.

What community business best defines the spirit of Ferndale?

Patch is relaunching its Readers’ Choice program and we’re asking you, your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else who knows about Ferndale to nominate the place in town that best "defines" Ferndale to you.

We’ll keep accepting nominations through July 9. After that, nominations will be closed and we’ll start the voting, so make sure to get in your favorites now.

All you need to do to nominate a business is to add it in the comments below. If you already see the business you want to nominate, make sure to add your comment about why it should be included, because we may not be able to add all businesses to our poll and we want to make sure the top ones make it into the poll.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Sign up for the Ferndale Patch Newsletter to find out when voting starts so you can support your favorite local businesses when the voting begins.

Dino's on Woodward is definitely the business that most says Ferndale. From the beginning of their existence Dino's has volunteered, donated, supported and defended all of Ferndale including but not limited to the schools, seniors, city hall, DDA, police and fire dept. efforts and even their competitors. In a city that has relied on volunteerism to move forward in a down economy, Dino and his staff are community leaders and the first to raise their hand when Ferndale is looking for ANYTHING to support our town and in my opinion are, hands down, the business that best defines Ferndale.

My wife and I own The Rust Belt Market and I vote for Garden Fresh Gourmet. I have had the pleasure of meeting Jack and Annette several times. They are GREAT people and they epitomize the American dream. Take a risk, start a business, make smart decisions and make a great product. Simple. The City of Ferndale prospers. The Johnston's restaurants would be my second choice(WAB, Emory, Loving Touch, and DIY)

The FESC is an important steward of the City’s environmental values and goals, and its membersRead More have performed valuable education programming and environmental policy support on behalf of all Ferndale residents. It was clear, however, the FESC and the city needed to revisit the mission and vision to make sure the group was focused on activities that could make the greatest impact. I worked with the FESC to brainstorm a new mission and purpose ideas with members and helped rewrite the draft ordinance in a collaborative effort with FESC and city staff. I'm happy to say we've made steady progress; last night the city manager and I met with FESC members to review the new ordinance language, and the group's renewel request will come to council on June 24th. Together, we had a great meeting and I believe FESC members are excited about the clearer alignment between FESC interests and the City’s environmental goals. Yes, it did take a bit longer than anticipated, but in the end I believe we'll have a stronger direction for FESC for years to come.

Here is a great idea: Let's not have the city automatically water its lawns after two days of rain.Read More That would save water, reduce costs, and not contribute to increased storm water runoff.
