Merry Midnight Madness is Tonight in Downtown Ferndale

Local retailers will be open late on Thursday to accommodate holiday shoppers.

Downtown Ferndale retailers will make it easy for you tonight by staying open late for "Merry Midnight Madness."

The event, which is part of the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority's Third Thursdays initiative, encourages shoppers to check out the city's unique local stores as well as the vendors at the Rust Belt Market.

Many stores will stay open late to accommodate late-night shoppers, though exact hours vary.

The Twisted Shamrock, for example, will be open until 11 p.m., and Modern Natural Baby will stay open until 10 p.m.

Also at Modern Natural Baby on Thursday night, the store is offering 20 percent off on all toys and clothes. Owner Emily Murray said it's a way of saying thanks to their customers for voting the store the Best Baby Boutique in a recent Local 4 contest.

The shop is also doing free, Christmas-themed caricatures from 5-10 p.m., Murray said. *Update: Caricatures have been cancelled as the artist is sick.
