Club Bart, Longtime Ferndale Bar and Restaurant, is Closing

Initial information says the longtime Ferndale bar and restaurant will shutter Sunday after the establishment has been sold.

Sunday is expected to be last night of business.

"Technically we just found out that it was for sure happening," Downtown Development Authority Director Cristina Shepard-Decius said Wednesday.

Shepard-Decius said Club Bart's had been sold. "We heard negotiations were happening prior to this but it closing this weekend is a surprise," she said.

The Facebook page of the longtime bar, venue, comedy joint, breakfast hotspot and late night dinner place had messages asking if the "rumor" was true and sadness of seeing it close.

"I just heard a horrible rumor that Club Bart may be closing?!?!?!?! Please say it ain't so!!!!" posted Stephanie Loveless.

"Tomorrow night will be the last open mic at Club Bart in Ferndale. The venue is a right of passage for most Detroit comedians. See you tomorrow at Bart's," posted Bill Bushart.

And then simply posted by Kevin Pachla: "SAVE CLUB BART!"

Club Bart, which opened in 1997, has recently held tributes to and John Lennon. The venue also holds , open mic nights on Thursdays and serves a mean breakfast menu.
