Ferndale Ice Cream Shop Reopens After Expansion

Treat Dreams debuts its new space, including an expanded kitchen and dining area.

Treat Dreams in Ferndale debuted its new expanded space on Friday at a grand re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The ice cream shop has tripled its dining space and expanded its kitchen to meet a growing demand in the store and at community events, food truck rallies and more.

"We would like to thank all of our loyal customers that have allowed us to take this next step," Treat Dreams owner Scott Maloney said in a press release. "Hopefully this new makeover and expansion will result in an even better Treat Dreams experience for our guests."

The larger space has new furniture, a kids area and windows for customers to view the expanded kitchen. The space also allows Treat Dreams to expand its on-site ice cream making events including its popular Kids Camps and "Treat Dreams After Dark" ice cream parties for adults.

Treat Dreams announced the expansion Jan. 10 and had to close the shop for three and a half weeks for the renovations. Maloney said on Friday that it was a busy three weeks and said he was making finishing touches to the space right up until the grand re-opening started.

"It feels like I can breathe again now," Maloney laughed.

The new space opened to the public at 7 p.m. Friday. Find more details on the expansion project here.

Great thing for Ferndale. I'll take a giant room full of people over a tiny space any day. (Unless it's a dollar store. I have no use for that in my city.)

The FESC is an important steward of the City’s environmental values and goals, and its membersRead More have performed valuable education programming and environmental policy support on behalf of all Ferndale residents. It was clear, however, the FESC and the city needed to revisit the mission and vision to make sure the group was focused on activities that could make the greatest impact. I worked with the FESC to brainstorm a new mission and purpose ideas with members and helped rewrite the draft ordinance in a collaborative effort with FESC and city staff. I'm happy to say we've made steady progress; last night the city manager and I met with FESC members to review the new ordinance language, and the group's renewel request will come to council on June 24th. Together, we had a great meeting and I believe FESC members are excited about the clearer alignment between FESC interests and the City’s environmental goals. Yes, it did take a bit longer than anticipated, but in the end I believe we'll have a stronger direction for FESC for years to come.

Here is a great idea: Let's not have the city automatically water its lawns after two days of rain.Read More That would save water, reduce costs, and not contribute to increased storm water runoff.
