It was a full house at in Ferndale on Tuesday night, where the salon was transformed into a "pop-up" art show featuring the work of more than 15 local artists.
"Fall in Love with Fashion" was an exploratory, fashion art gallery concept highlighting photography, fine art, costume, millinery and digital media.
The show, curated by fashion stylist and blogger Alvita Lozano, explored the "cultural" side of fashion versus being a fashion show. The event had a suggested $5 donation at the door, and all proceeds went to benefit .
Lozano, a Ferndale resident, has a background as an architectural interior designer and project manager.
"I want to curate events around fashion," she said. "I was just thrilled to do it here."
Lozano said she is committed to the mission of FernCare and found it a natural choice for the show to benefit.
Heather Rehe, owner of Salon Rehe, said Lozano has been a client at the salon for years and Rehe was happy to offer the space for the show.
"I'm always trying to help out and support the area," she said. "I think it's just important."
Ryan Hockett, of Detroit, marveled a piece by the 's Tiffany Best.
"I think Tiffany did an amazing job," he said.
Producer and photographer George Greenough, CEO of Factory Productions in Royal Oak, said he enjoyed the event.
"It's a nice display of different types of work," he said. "Artists need more places to actually show their stuff."
Ann Heller, president of FernCare, said she was grateful to have FernCare involved and felt the event was esspecially unique.
"What a great chance for the artists to get to exhibit their art," she said. "Who knows what it might do for one of them."
Lozano said she hopes to host another gallery next year.
