New Ferndale Dog Day Care Aims to be 'Community Center' for Dogs

Canine to Five pet care facility is officially opening at 2141 Hilton on Monday, Jan. 28.

Ferndale's new dog day care Canine to Five officially opens its doors next week and is looking to be "more than just a daycare facility."

The business, located at 2141 Hilton, had its soft opening this week and is having its official grand opening on Monday, Jan. 28.

Canine to Five offers day care services for dogs and is planning to also offer overnight boarding by March. This is the second location for the business, which also has a location in Midtown Detroit.

Founder and owner Liz Blondy said the Ferndale location has been receiving "an abundance of calls" in advance of the opening.

"We are thrilled to see a demand for our service in the Ferndale market and cannot wait to introduce our award-winning business to new dogs," she said.

Blondy says her Midtown location has grown to be "more than just a daycare facility" and has become a "community center for dogs," offering play dates, educational seminars and other events. She wants the same for the Ferndale location.

"We want to make sure our new Ferndale location is a similar resource for our customers and community," she said.

Canine to Five in Ferndale will host an open play date on Valentine’s Day ($5 per dog entrance fee), two more play dates are scheduled in March, and several educational seminars will be offered over the next six months- with topics such as off-leash play and pet first aid.

The first 50 dogs to come to the Ferndale location will get a second day of daycare for free.

Canine to Five will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The facility has 4,000 square feet of cageless, indoor climate-controlled play space and 1,400 square feet of outdoor play space. It has the capacity to service about 60 daycare dogs per day.

This is just a yuppie dog center, They wont let you board your dog there unless you are a regular day care customer. I want to support local business, but I can't board there even though they charge $5 more a day than Gassow which has real vets on staff.

Odd. I've boarded my guy at their Detroit location, despite not being a day care customer.

I love Canine to Five! We used their puppy program when our pooch was new, and they helped us complete her house training. Every time we're on 75, our pup perks up when we drive past the Mack exit. Plus- they do the best haircuts. We're SO EXCITED to visit the Ferndale location!
