Downtown Ferndale was A-Buzz Friday Afternoon

New businesses were being worked on Friday afternoon throughout Ferndale, from new bars to a salon to a jewelry shop.

Friday afternoon seemed especially busy with new business renovations as Woodward Imperial, John D's Bistro and Bar, Orchid, and a new salon all had their doors open and workers in and out.

If those names don't ring any bells, here is the rundown:

  • Woodward Imperial has taken over the former Post Bar location at 22828 Woodward Ave. The bar, which will serve tacos for a snack, is renovating the facade and will bring in two garage doors for windows and is completely redoing the awning. The Downtown Development Authority said in July that the bar is about six months away. Read the initial story .
  • Orchid, which is the former Club 9 location at 141 W. Nine Mile Rd., has been coming along with its renovations. The building has been painted purple and silver, it has done some landscaping work in the back along West Troy and a new sign has been put up. on Friday, the doors were open and there were workers inside doing renovations there. A timeline for opening is unknown at this point.
  • The longtime drum shop at the corner of West Troy and Woodward called Percussion World will soon be a hair salon owned by ex-NBA player Carlos Rogers. The space, located at 22741 Woodward Ave., is expected to do men and women’s hair and also deal with extensions and natural wigs. An open date is still unknown. Read the initial story .
  • Well, . And while everyone is most likely still lamenting the lost of a Ferndale mainstay, the new owners are working on the new space. It's expected to be an American-European-style bistro called John D's Bistro and Bar – "John D" is carved into the arch above the doorway. On Friday afternoon, the door was open and workers were inside. Ferndale Patch will report an open date as soon as one is established. Read about the closure of Club Bart .
  • There is movement in the South Woodward-facing corner of the Macole Building, 22720 Woodward Ave. It has been cleared out and a fresh coat of brightly colored paint has been put up. At this point in time, Ferndale Patch does not know what is going in there. A call has been made to the DDA director for an update.
  • A new jewelry story will be opening up soon in the Ferndale Center Building at the corner of East Nine Mile and Woodward, 22754 Woodward Ave. Workers have renovated the inside and jewelry cases have been brought in but still haven't displayed any jewelry. Ferndale Patch will report an open date as soon as one is made available.

'Twas a busy day in Ferndale on Friday.
