DDA: Audio Tours, Trick-or-Treating, Entrepreneurs Coming to Downtown Ferndale

Lead off: entrepreneurs
FernNet and IGNITE join forces for a evening of entrepreneurs at at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
FernNet is a networking group for downtown businesses, which is open to everyone, and IGNITE is a forum for those who are starting or growing their businesses in downtown Ferndale.

The event brings in Bonnie R. Fahoome, resource coordinator for the MORE Program, an organization that provides resources to entrepreneurs, to talk tools of the trade for – yep, you guessed it – entrepreneurs.
No. 2: audio tours through downtown Ferndale
Hughes said a new feature will be attached to the Wayfinding signs around town via the QR codes found on them.

QR codes are the black and white pixilated-looking icons in the corners of the sign. The code is embedded with information and can be scanned by smartphones to access that information. Soon audio tours will be able to be accessed through the QR codes, Hughes said. Tours will include historical sites, a green tour and an art tour.
In the 3 spot: MotorCity Casino partnership
Hughes also discussed, briefly, a new partnership between MotorCity Casino in Detroit and the DDA. "This is just the beginning of a long-term partnership with MotorCity," Hughes said.
MotorCity helped sponsor in May and the and the the weekend of Sept. 16-18. Hughes also eluded to a "very exciting public art project" between the DDA and MotorCity coming up. Stay tuned for more details.
Batting cleanup: trick-or-treating downtown
From 4-7 p.m. Oct. 29, downtown Ferndale will go to kids in costumes when businesses will open their doors for a pre-Halloween trick-or-treating.
Hughes said this is a perfect opportunity to get a little extra out of that costume you put together. A little extra candy never hurt anyone either – except the teeth, really.
