Businesses Close Due to Power Outage

Stores north of West Nine Mile and moving north along Woodward shut down early due to power outage.

Power is out on the north side of West Nine Mile Road and several of downtown Ferndale's businesses are closed.

Ferndale residents started reporting outages around 5:30 p.m. Currently, the DTE power outage map is reporting nearly 4,000 customers without power in Ferndale.

Those customers also include some downtown businesses and many of them put signs on their doors about closing early, including , and .

On the south side of West Nine Mile, however, restaurant had power. Businesses south of Nine Mile have been unaffected by the outage.

DTE spokesman Scott Simons told Ferndale Patch that "hopefully" the power would be back on this evening sometime.

However the Ferndale Fire Chief Kevin Sullivan said it doesn't look like the power is coming back on this evening.

He said the outage could be a result of the excessive heat the area is experiencing.

"When you're running air conditioners and fans and swimming pools, it puts a tremendous strain on the system," he said. "It's like running your car at full capacity in this heat."
