Bites Nearby: Da Nang Restaurant

Head over to Clawson for a cross section of the fare of Vietnam.

Da Nang Restaurant, 1 S. Main St., Clawson (248) 577-5130

, named for the hometown of proprietor Kim Dao-Waldis, celebrates its second anniversary next month. The restaurant's two dining rooms are done up with deep red walls, wrought-iron framed mirrors and lantern-style light fixtures for a serene setting.

The menu offers a cross section of the fare of Vietnam. There are several versions of the national soup – pho – which is really a full meal in itself. It comes in a deep bowl, brimming with rice noodles and cuts of beef in several variations, including meatballs. Accompanying it is a plate of bean sprouts and fresh herbs to be added to taste by each diner. Entrees include grilled boneless beef short ribs and similarly prepared pork. Despite the seeming emphasis on beef, there are many vegetarian choices, including a vegetarian version of pho.

Da Nang recently got its liquor license, a boon to those who like beer or wine along with the food of Vietnam.
