How did your business come to be?
My wife and I learned about craft cocktails in Chicago at The Violet Hour. We quickly became obsessed and when we moved back to the Detroit area we initially tried to get them to open a bar here. One of their owners proposed working together on a Detroit bar, and he ended up helping us with our business plan and planning.
What does your business offer?
We offer world-class cocktails in a nostalgic, speakeasy-like setting. Our bar is specifically conducive to people looking to imbibe with friends without having to pack into a loud, crowded space. Our limited capacity sometimes causes long wait times, but we encourage call-ahead seating which alleviates most of those waits. The seating policy also creates a comfortable and spacious environment where talking with friends is easy and enjoyable. The Oakland's staff is courteous and inviting as well as knowledgeable and talented in classic and craft cocktails.
What's your most popular product or service?
Drinks!
What's something about your business that most people wouldn't know?
Simply calling one hour before your arrival usually eliminates all or most wait times for parties of 6 or less.

Why did you choose the area you did?
Ferndale is a community in the truest sense of the word. Ferndalians are forward-thinking, laid back, and well-versed in food and drinks. They are the perfect clientele for a bar with a concept like ours.
