What's Up in Ferndale This Weekend?

Mardi Gras party at Howe's Bayou, Battle of the Bands and more.

Looking for something to do this weekend in Ferndale? Here are a few things going on around town:

Mardi Gras party

Howe's Bayou will host its annual Mardi Gras party starting Friday, Feb. 8. The event features live music, free beads and King Cakes, prizes and more. Since the event is held just following the Ferndale Blues and Music festival, Howe's Bayou will leave its blue piggy bank out for anyone who wants to make a donation to benefit Ferndale Youth Assistance and the Michigan AIDS Coalition.

  • Friday: Albert Young Accustic Trio at 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: The Black Hats featuring Frankie the K at 9 p.m.
  • Sunday: EARLY SHOW Chrissy Morgan 6 p.m.; Fat Tuesday Maggie McCabe at 5 p.m.; John Latini at 8 p.m.

Battle of the Bands

Rock the Runway + Battle of the Bands will be held at Ferndale High School on Saturday, Feb. 9. This family-friendly event will be held from 7-9 p.m. in the Ferndale High School Auditorium. Guests will be able to text their votes (just like American Idol) for the best local high school band and check out the latest fashions modeled by FHS students. Ticket price is $5 each and all proceeds benefit the FHS Prom Committee. Don't forget your cell phones!

Ferndale Reads

The kick-off event for this year's Ferndale Public Library Ferndale Reads month will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Rust Belt Market. The details of the kick-off are a mystery, but attendees may want to bring their smart phones to document the happening.

New 'Sunday Buffet' at Go Comedy

Go Gomedy!'s resident mixologist Andy French is teaming up with The Sauced Chef Nick Shultz to bring patrons a unique pairing of gourmet sliders and cocktails to enjoy during The Sunday Buffet. The night begins at 7 p.m. with Fresh Sauce - where anyone can sign up to perform new and classic improv games like those seen in the weekly Go Comedy! All Star Showdown. At 8 p.m., Go Comedy!'s house improv team, The Grand Mutiny, kicks off a two-hour improv buffet featuring a rotating selection of Detroit's best improv teams. Find full details here.     

Girl Scout cookie sales start

Get your cookie fix this weekend as local Girl Scout troops start their annual cookie booth sales. Ferndale Girl Scout Junior Troop #73562 will have cookie booths set up locally starting Sunday from 12-5 p.m. at Ferndale Foods. More dates here.
