Weekend Planner: Take Advantage of That Extra Hour

From F3 to the Great Pumpkin Roll to charity events, there's plenty to do to fill the time.

Hey folks, don't forget to turn those clocks back on Sunday. You may need the extra hour to sleep in after a fun, exciting weekend.

From the Ferndale Film Festival a wine-tasting event, you can take advantage of 60 more minutes with these events:

  • When: 6 p.m. Thursday
  • Where:
  • Cost: $5
  • Why go:  Zombie films and more! The Ferndale Film Festival presents The Olympian, Mother Smoker, The Dancer, The Girl with Blue Eyes, Protangeline, Dealbreaker and The Zombie Factor. Red Carpet starts at 6, films start at 7.

  • Where: Blumz By JR Designs and at the Ferndale Public Library
  • When: 1 p.m. at the library, 7 p.m. at Blumz Friday
  • Cost: $5 (free at library)
  • Why go: Check out a full lineup of films first at the library's then at the Blumz evening showing.
  • What else: Visit www.ferndalefilmfestival.org to get the full list of films and venues planned for the festival, which continues through Sunday.

  • Where: Blumz By JR Designs and at the Ferndale Public Library
  • When: 1 p.m. at the library, 7 p.m. at Blumz Saturday
  • Cost: $5 (free at library)

  • When: Noon on Saturday 
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: Not sure what to do with your leftover pumpkins from Halloween? Grab them and head down to Martin Road Park for the second annual Great Pumpkin Roll! Refreshments and prizes will be offered.
  • What else: Contact Ferndale Recreation for more information.

  • Where:
  • When: 7 p.m. Saturday
  • Cost: $30
  • Why go: The event will benefit the students of the area as well as the Leah Marie Bollin Memorial Award. The Bollin Award benefits students with epilepsy as well as those with learning disabilities and gives six $1,000 scholarships a year to deserving students. FOP 130 also awards at least five scholarships a year to deserving students. A Sommelier will be present to answer questions and a buffet will be offered. Also included are 50/50 raffles, door prizes and a silent auction.
