Thousands Expected in Ferndale for Detroit Improv Festival

The event will be held Aug. 7-11 at venues throughout the city, plus one in Detroit, and feature improvisors including TJ & Dave of Sonic commercial fame, as well as Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charlie LeDuff.

Thousands of fans are expected to flock to Ferndale and Detroit for the second annual Detroit Improv Festival that kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 7, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 11.

The event will feature more than 200 improvisors including headliners TJ & Dave of Sonic commercial fame, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charlie LeDuff and a number of Ferndale residents; a beer tent; and a variety of workshops.

As many as 3,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will be held at four venues in Ferndale and one in Detroit, said Tim Kay, who is a cast member, director and instructor at sponsor and host venue Go Comedy! Improv Theater in Ferndale.

"This event is truly unique not only for our city but for Michigan as well," said Kay, who will be hosting and performing during the festival. "Might I also add it is something I look forward to every year. It is the most fun I have all summer, hands down."
