Restored 102-Year-Old Harp Guitar Makes Music in Ferndale

J.B. Davies of Birmingham plays the unusual instrument Friday during the "Change Is Good" fundraiser for public art at The Rust Belt Market.

J.B. Davies took the stage Friday at The Rust Belt Market in Ferndale with an odd-looking instrument that made beautiful music.

The Birmingham resident, who plays with the Michigan Fingerstyle Guitar Society, performed Friday during the "Change Is Good" fundraiser for public art on the 102-year-old harp guitar that he restored.

The Dyer Harp Guitar, which is a six-string guitar with five sub-bass strings, was popular around the turn of the 20th century and is making a comeback, Davies said.
