Meet Best-Selling Irish Author John Connolly at the WAB

John Connolly will be at the Woodward Avenue Brewers as part of a fundraiser for the Ferndale Reads program.

The Killing Kind, Hell’s Bells, The Reapers: No, these are not alternative names used to describe Gov. Rick Snyder's proposed budget cuts. They're some of the book titles of best-selling Irish author John Connolly, who will be at the on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. after his book signing event at the Ferndale Public Library.

The event is also a fundraiser for the program, which chose Connolly's novel The Book of Lost Things as its book of the month.

Connolly, who was born in Dublin, has won several literary honors, including the Shamus Award and the Barry Award.

Tickets for Tuesday's event cost $30 and may be purchased at the door. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the Ferndale Reads program. The admission price includes a complimentary drink, an appetizer and a chance to strike up a conversation with the author himself. So come prepared with questions and your imagination: He is a novelist, after all.

“It’s kind of new program,"
said of Ferndale Reads. "We got a grant last year and did not get it this year, but we still wanted to do our program."

Ferndale Reads followed the footsteps of last year’s reading program, the Big Read, which was created to encourage reading throughout the community. Ferndale Reads was citywide and featured several events, including book readings, film nights and a show at , all complementing The Book of Lost Things’ fairy tale theme.

But don’t let the fairy tale theme fool you.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a kid’s book, but it’s appropriate for young adults,” said Burns.
