Go Comedy! Takes On RoboCop In New Musical Parody

ROGOCOP! The Musical, a hilarious take on the iconic film, debuts July 7 on the Go Comedy! Improve Theater.

It’s one part singing, one part acting and a whole dose of funny as ROGOCOP! The Musical debuts at tonight in Ferndale.

As the second original musical of its kind there, the show pokes fun at the blockbuster film RoboCop, creating the tale of a robotic police officer that protects a futuristic Detroit from crime, and this time cyborgs are even involved.

As the brainchild of Sean May of St. Clair Shores, one of Go Comedy!’s resident cast members, the re-imaginative ROGOCOP! promises to be all-out hilarious with no shortage of musical talent.

“We encourage our performers to create their own works and we work to support that,” said PJ Jacokes, Go Comedy! co-owner and producer.  “It follows the main plot points of the film but we’ve reworked it to include a bunch of local and current references. If you know the movie well, there will be familiar moments, but if not, it’s its own experience.”

As the Ferndale theater's largest-ever original production, ROGOCOP! The Musical, directed by Joe Plambeck of fame, will join together a strong 10-person cast of Go Comedy! regulars as well as traditional actors. Featuring such songs as “Armchair Nightmare” and “It’s Not Easy Being Gay When You’re a Gangster”, the show promises to keep the audience in stitches.

The Go Comedy! team hopes ROGOCOP! The Musical will truly bring something a little bit different to the stage.

“Ideally, [the audience] will leave with the songs stuck in their heads with the only cure being multiple visits,” sums up Jacokes.

Go Comedy! Improv Theater is located at 261 East Nine Mile Road. ROGOCOP! The Musical will run July 7-August 26 on Thursday and Friday nights at 8 p.m. Tickets are $14 and can be purchased in advance by calling (248) 327-0575 after 6 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday evenings or by visiting the Go Comedy! website.
