Ferndale DIY Profile: Amy Gore, Musician

We asked all kinds of Ferndale residents what DIY means to them.

Amy Gore founded the Gore Gore Girls in 1997 and became a vital part of the modern American garage rock scene of the late 1990s. She also teamed up with Nikki Corvette to form Gorevette in 2008. Her current band, Amy Gore and Her Valentines will be playing the Metro Times stage of the DIY Street Fair on Sunday at 5:50 p.m.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

2. What does DIY mean to you?

Darling Icicle Yellowstone. Right? I love our nation's parks.

3. Tell us about a DIY project (or projects) you have worked on and why it was DIY.

My craft is music, I've been doing it myself for a while now ... three albums, one EP, singles and tours around the US, Europe, and Japan.

4. Why does the DIY attitude fit Ferndale?

Ferndale is an artist community. Artists by trade "do things themselves."

5. Who is your favorite DIY artist/musician/human?

My favorite humans are artists and they include Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Denis Tek (Radio Birdman), Eddie Cochran, Carole King and Albert Einstein among others. Einstein was a violinist.

This profile is part of Ferndale Patch's month-long  where we talk with residents, artists, musicians, crafters, anyone with an opinion about DIY. The project will lead up to the DIY Street Fair Sept. 16-18.
