Southeast Michigan Dyke March

The Southeast Michigan Dyke March, an event with the goal of promoting visibility of the area’s lesbian, transgender, bisexual, and queer community, will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 2 pm, in Downtown Ferndale. This event aims to promote activism and visibility of the LGBTQ community, respond to male-focused pride events, and create a safe space for Michigan’s LGBTQ community.
The Southeast Michigan Dyke March is part of a worldwide movement that strives to promote lesbian visibility and inclusion. The word “dyke” is used to identify with other dyke marches within the movement, with sensitivity to the word’s negative origins.
The Second Annual Southeast Michigan Dyke March and Rally is a family friendly, all-inclusive event, so everyone is welcome to march. Line-up is in the Withington parking lot (on the northwest corner of Nine Mile and Woodward) beginning at 1 pm. The Rally will be held at Geary Park beginning at 3 pm, and will feature LGBTQ interest entertainment. For more information, please visit www.semidykemarch.org.
