David R. Harper - The Quiet Life

The Butcher's Daughter is proud to present

David R. Harper - The Quiet Life opening on May 14, 2011.

Originally from Toronto, David R. Harper moved to Halifax in 2002 to attend the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where he received a BFA in 2006. As a student he exhibited at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. He remained in Halifax until 2009 and during this time exhibited at venues such as Eye Level Gallery, Galerie Sans Nom ...in Moncton, Stride Gallery in Calgary, the Art Gallery of Mississauga and Cambridge Galleries in Ontario.

In 2009 he was offered a trustee scholarship to pursue his MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago. During this time he has had several exhibitions most notably, Skin and Bone at the Textile Museum of Canada. This exhibition was covered extensively including coverage in the National Post, the Toronto Star and Eye Weekly.

In 2010 Harper's work was choose by Susanne Ghez, the director of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, to represent the Chicago Art Institute in New Insights: an exhibition at Art Chicago that featuring top MFA students from some of the most influential graduate art programs in the country.

The Quiet Life includes ceramics, embroidery, fiber, sculpture and taxidermy objects d'art. The exhibition runs through June 25, 2011 at The Butcher's Daughter.
