The informal club will meet at 6 p.m. Mondays starting May 13 in Schiffer Park for a 3- to 5-mile easy run. Runners of all paces are invited to participate.

"Are there any running groups in Ferndale? I'm looking to be part of one as I am started half marathon training and the weather is getting nicer!" – Ginette Kendler of Ferndale

This post Monday on the Ferndale Patch Facebook page got neighbors talking and inspired Kendler and fellow resident Kelly Kachnowski to create the Ferndale Area Runners group.

The group will meet at 6 p.m. Mondays starting May 13 in Schiffer Park for a 3- to 5-mile easy run. Runners of all paces are invited to participate.

"After signing up for the Detroit Free Press/(Talmer Bank) Half-Marathon in October, I decided it was time to look around for running groups. A co-worker of mine suggested to Google it, and the closest one I found was in Royal Oak. I know I see people out running every day on the streets of Ferndale and thought that was kinda crazy," Kendler said. "So, I posted on Patch and Kelly responded. Since then, it's been emailing back and forth to see what idea we have to create a group and so came 'Ferndale Area Runners.'

"I have never met Kelly before, so our first run will be the first time," she said. "We just want everyone to come out, enjoy each others' inspiration and motivation and run. I am just beginning, so I know I won't be a fast runner, but I like the idea of people who are experienced. Everyone is welcome."

Kachnowski echoed that sentiment.

"What better way to get to know your neighbors than to get together to enjoy the outdoors and our wonderful community?" she said. "OK, that sounds cheesy, but I think it'll be fun."
