Planning a Garage Sale in Ferndale?

Are you planning a garage sale in Ferndale this spring or summer? If so, here are some things to keep in mind.

City regulations

The following regulations apply to garage sales held in Ferndale, according to a recent post on the city's Facebook page:

• Residents may conduct two sales per year, three days at a time. Permitted hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• No permit is required.
• Signs are to be placed on private property only.
• Posting signs in the city right-of-way or on poles is prohibited and they may be confiscated.
• Complaints about residents exceeding the two sales per year limit can be directed to Code Enforcement at 248-336-4365.

Residents previously had to apply for a $5 garage sale permit until Ferndale City Council voted to remove the requirement in May 2011.

Post your event

You can let the community know about your upcoming garage sale by posting it on Patch. Here's how:

1. Choose "Events" tab at the top of this page, then click "Add an Event."
2. Give your event a title, such as: “Neighborhood Garage Sale”
3. Enter a date, time and address.
4. Add a description letting the community know what items you are selling and anything else you think is relevant.
5. Click “Upload Photos and Video” to add some pictures if you have them.
6. Choose the “Garage Sale” category for the event.
7. You can add a link to a website or contact information, but this information isn't necessary to post the event.
8. Click "Post My Event," and it will show up on the Ferndale Patch events calendar.
