Creating Something Together is a Beautiful Thing, Says Musical Ferndale Couple

In honor of Valentine's Day, we're taking a look at some of Ferndale's cutest couples.

Ferndale has its fair share of lovebirds, so we decided to check in with a few of them before Valentine's Day and ask them to share relationship and date night secrets.

Today, we take a closer look at what makes Nicolas Brown and Alison Perkins Brown so sweet. Nick and Alison live in Ferndale with their pug, Galahad.

How long have you been together?

5 and a half years, and married for 4 months.

What’s the secret to a successful and happy relationship?

We don't know if this is a "secret," exactly, but there is something very powerful about being able to play music together. Both of us are Irish musicians, and we actually met at a Celtic music festival. Being able to create something together is a beautiful thing. Also, being able to laugh together and find humor in the same things (especially in each other) is very important.

What famous couple would you compare yourselves to?

Amy and Rory Pond from Doctor Who, because we are nerds and because we would do anything for each other--even if that meant traveling through time and space.

Why did you settle in Ferndale, and how long have you lived here?

We have lived in Ferndale for almost 2 years. We choose this area because we were attracted to the craftsman style homes and because we wanted to be within walking distance of a fun downtown. We're planning on buying a house here because of the sense of community we've already gained, even just from being here for a short time.

What’s your favorite romantic night out in Ferndale and why?

Definitely an evening at the Oakland. We love going there on a quiet Sunday night, to talk about the weekend and brace ourselves for Monday. Sometimes we act like old people and bring a deck of cards.
