Update: Ferndale's Kulick Center to Remain Open for Cooling Thursday

As a heat advisory in Oakland County continues through Thursday night, the city of Ferndale has opened the Kulick Community Center as a public cooling center.

The center - located at 1201 Livernois - will continue to be available for cooling from 9:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18.

Residents who need a break from the heat will need to check in and out of the Kulick Center with the administrative staff upon entering the facility, a notice on the city's web site states. Staff will direct residents to one of several designated rooms and areas for cooling off.

The Kulick Center does not provide food or drink but has vending machines and drinking fountains available. Guests may also bring in their own refreshments while they cool off. Alcohol is not permitted.

The city also points out that the Kulick Center is not equipped to handle medical emergencies or serious conditions - anyone concerned about their health should dial 911 in case of emergency, or contact their physician or local hospital for assistance.
