Love is Foolish, Says Ferndale Couple

In honor of Valentine's Day, we're taking a look at some of Ferndale's cutest couples.

Ferndale has its fair share of lovebirds, so we decided to check in with a few of them before Valentine's Day and ask them to share relationship and date night secrets.

Today, we hear from Ferndale residents Daniel Gonyea-Alexander and Allison Alexander. Together they're raising their 3-year-old daughter Lilah (Daniel blogs about Lilah's preschool adeventures here on Patch).

My wife told me love was foolish, so she agreed to love me because it was on April Fool's day.  That was 7 years ago this April.

What's the Secret to a Successful and Happy Relationship?

Levity. Truly, humor and knowing when to be foolish has gotten us through some hard times.

What Famous Couple Would You Compare Yourself To?

Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, mainly because I'm not long for this world after whenever she goes.  Also, she keeps me grounded and I keep her fun.

Why Did You Settle in Ferndale and How Long Have You Lived Here?

We've lived in Ferndale 3 years now, but we settled here because the city has a nice open-minded reputation.  Ferndale is a community where Lilah could grow up to be whatever she wanted and there would be no judgement, which is really important to us.

What is your Favorite Romantic Night out in Ferndale and why?

We like to go out to Maria's Front Room when we're being romantical because the atmosphere is always really nice there and it looks nothing like our front room, which is strewn with toys.  And also they have delicious chicken and Ann Gonyea salads (salads that look like they don't have anything going on and then surprise you with flavor.)
