Facebook Page Aims to Unite Ferndale Neighbors

The 9Crest Neighborhood page serves as a virtual gathering place for residents who live in the sliver of city west of Pinecrest.

A Ferndale resident hopes a new Facebook page will unify her neighbors and help improve their neighborhood.

Jillian Bogater created the 9Crest Neighborhood page as a virtual gathering place where residents in the sliver of Ferndale west of Pinecrest, to the north and south of Nine Mile Road, can share information and post photos.

"Are you a Ferndale resident who lives along Nine Mile Road, near Pinecrest?" says the page's "About" section. "Please consider joining your neighbors as we unite for a stronger, cleaner, safer neighborhood."

Bogater said the page applies only to the isolated portion of Ferndale. She added that her March 25 blog post on Ferndale Patch about an observed decline in her neighborhood was not directed toward the city as a whole.

Bogater said she anticipates the 9Crest Neighborhood community will grow on Facebook as word of the page spreads. It had 25 "Likes" as of Sunday and was peppered with photos and comments.

  • Amy Lebowsky: Just shared with my neighbor, the Mayor. :)

"They're already piping in and saying what corner they live on and that they're going to watch out for their neighbors and report what they see," Bogater said. "Communication leads to a unified neighborhood; already, we're starting feel more connected."
