Ferndale Plow Trucks Hit Every Street in 19 Hours

Department of Public Works started plowing at 7 p.m. Tuesday and were finished by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Ferndale didn't get the amount of snow that was predicted and that was good news for theDirector Byron Photiades.

"We finished," he said. "We were done at 2 p.m."

Photiades said his plow trucks had hit every street in Ferndale, as well as city parking lots, by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Instead of the foot of snow that was forecasted by the National Weather Service, , according to Photiades.

"We had a full crew when we thought we were going to get 12-15 inches," he said. "But it was more like 8. We did have some guys on from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m."

Despite the high winds and the blizzard-like conditions of Tuesday night, Photiades said everything went pretty smoothly.

"One truck went down last night. Broke a hydraulic hose, but no surprises," he said.

The National Weather Service ended its winter advisory for the area Wednesday at 5 p.m. Snow isn't expected to fall for the rest of the week. Photiades said the game plan is to treat this like any other winter day.

"If the roads get slick, the (Ferndale) Police will call us and we'll salt," he said. "Other than that, we're looking pretty good."
