Ferndale DPW Responds to Water Main Break on Wednesday

The break occurred on Hilton south of Nine Mile Road. A temporary discoloration in your water is normal and is not hazardous, according to the department.

A water main break occurred around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on Hilton south of Nine Mile Road, according to the Ferndale Department of Public Works.

Shaun Slocum, parks and forestry supervisor with the department, said the issue was resolved this morning and residents in that area should not be alarmed if they notice a temporary discoloration in their water.

The discoloration is due to mineral deposits that are always present in the water line, he said. "It is not hazardous, it's not dangerous. It just doesn't look good," he said. "It's not appealing to the eye."

Residents can run their water to help expedite the process.

"It will clear itself up," he said. "What we tell people is to run water at the lowest point of their house," like in the laundry tub sink in the basement, he said.
