Businesses Offer Memorial Day Discounts for Military Members

Here's a look at discounts for active, reserve and retired members of the Armed Forces this holiday.

One small way businesses are saying thank you to the United States military this Memorial Day is by offering special discounts to Armed Forces personnel, their families and veterans.

Here are a list of discounts for people who are serving or have served in the U.S. military.

Attractions

  • The Detroit Institute of Arts is offering free general admission to active military personnel and their families (military ID holder and five immediate family members) from Monday, May 27, to Sept. 2 as part of the Blue Star Museums program. For a list of DIA programs and activities, visit www.dia.org.
  • The Henry Ford offers free admission year round to Henry Ford Museum or Greenfield Village attractions only for active U.S. military.

Dining

  • Hooters is celebrating Memorial Day by offering 10 free wings to military members with proof of service. The offer is dine-in only and patrons must purchase a drink to receive the deal.
  • Applebee’s – Discount varies per location, simply ask and have a valid military ID with you.
  • Dairy Queen – 10 percent off your purchase with a valid military ID.
  • Boston Market – Receive 20 percent off at Boston Market when you present your valid military ID at participating locations.
  • Starbucks – Buy a 16 ounce limited edition Frappuccino cold to-go cup ($12.95) and receive a free Grande Frappuccino blended beverage at the time of purchase. This offer is available at all participating stores in the U.S. until May 30.

Shopping

  • Home Depot – 10 percent discount for veterans (a 10 percent discount is offered all year to active duty and immediate family members as well).
  • Lowes – 10 percent discount for veterans (a 10 percent discount is offered all year to active duty and immediate family members as well).
  • Jo-Ann Fabric – 20 percent discount (includes sale and clearance) through May 27.
  • 7-Eleven – 49-cent Slurpees through May 27 (everyone).
  • Walgreens – 15 percent discount on name-brands and 20 percent discount on store brand items May 27.
