99-Year-Old Local Lions Fan Granted 'Dream' Day

Robert Burch, of Hazel Park, enjoys Lions-themed day with his family provided by Hospice Dreams.

Robert Burch, a seasoned Detroit Lions fan from Hazel Park, still roots for his team at the ripe age of 99.

He recently received his dream day through the wish-granting organization Hospice Dreams. Burch, of course, chose a Lions-themed day.

Burch was born in 1913, well before his hometown of Detroit even had a professional football team. He was in his 20s before the Lions were established, and he calls himself an original fan.

“Just call me quarterback,” Burch jokes.

Burch, now 99, is in hospice care through Passages Hospice. His nurse reached out to Hospice Dreams to help throw an intimate Detroit Lions Party during the last game of the season.

Hospice Dreams, a non-profit organization that grants wishes for adult hospice patients, granted the wish with a special Lions-themed party.

Surrounded by family and friends, Burch donned his new Lions jersey and hat to watch his boys in blue take on the Chicago Bears.

As a special treat, Bob tackled a half slab of his favorite ribs and cheered his team on until the final down.

The Lions didn't win, but Burch said the afternoon made him feel like a winner anyway.

Hospice Dreams is a non-profit organization based in Illinois that helps fulfill unmet wishes and improve quality of life for hospice patients and their families all around the country. For more information or to donate, visit www.hospicedreams.org or call 888-741-9132.
