Meet Michigan Authors at Leon & Lulu Sunday, Oct. 27

More Than 30 Local Authors Will Unite To Support the Detroit Free Press’ Gift of Reading Program

Book it to Leon & Lulu Sunday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the fourth-annual, award-winning Books & Authors event. Celebrate the written word and those who put pen to paper. Books & Authors is a free event, which benefits the Detroit Free Press’ Gift of Reading Program.

“You can expect a wide array of titles and subjects at this year’s event, including fiction, memoirs, travel books, children’s books, local interest and more, ” says Mary Liz Curtin, owner of Leon & Lulu. “This event gives authors a chance to meet their fans, mingle with the public and to sell their books while we raise money for the Gift of Reading program."

An expected 30 authors will sign books and read excerpts at Leon & Lulu this Sunday, including WJBK Fox 2 Anchor Alan Lee, author of Sandstorm, his thrilling debut novel about an ex–CIA agent and a covert operation designed to derail Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and Fox 2 investigative reporter M.L. Elrick will also be on hand. Elrick is co-author of The Kwame Sutra, which provides a 3-D portrait of Detroit’s youngest elected mayor, from his stunning rise to power to the self-induced, cataclysmic crash that landed him in jail.

On the lighter side, Author Shutta Crum, whose Mine! was listed in the New York Times as one of the best board books of the year, will sign and sell her newest children’s book, Dozens Of Cousins. Acclaimed Photographer Jenny Risher will showcase her portrait book, Heart Soul Detroit, which was penned by Matt Lee, and many more.
