Roosevelt Primary School, located in the north end of Ferndale, on the corner of Pinecrest Drive and West Oakridge Avenue, offers kindergarden through third-grade classes. Kindergarden is all day.

In 2007, Roosevelt's initiative Brain Smart Start recieved the Education Excellence Award from the Michigan Association of School Boards and, in the same year, a National Schools of Character Promising Practices Award from the Character Education Partnership. Roosevelt also won the 2008-2009 Promsing Practice Award from the Big Brother Mentoring program.

The Brain Smart Start initiative starts the morning off with quiet music as the students enter the classroom, a morning announcment with a brain tip, and a word of the day. This school believes children are visual learners and utilizes this concept throughout the school.

Roosevelt also has the 5 Bee program that teaches students to:

1. Be Safe;

2. Be Helpful;

3. Be Kind;

4. Be Respectful; and

5. Be Responsible.

Roosevelt principal, Dina Krause, can be reached at dkrause@ferndaleschools.org.
