In the world of fundraising, organizations have to constantly find new ways to persuade people to give money.
What works in Ferndale: Beer.
This weekend at the DIY Street Fair, the Ferndale Education Foundation is running one of the beer tents on Saturday. Our volunteers will be selling drink tickets and pouring beer. All tips will go to the FEF. Repeat: The ticket money pays for the beer; the tip money goes to FEF.
We have Chris and Krista Johnston, owners of the WAB, to thank for offering FEF this opportunity. FEF helps the Johnstons by providing volunteers to run the beer tent, which will be in the Ferndale Library parking lot between Nine Mile and East Troy Street. The Johnstons say thank you by letting us put a big tip jar in the tent. Last year we raised about $1,000 for our programs.
The Ferndale Education Foundation is a group of volunteers who raise money throughout the year to fund innovative teacher projects and other initiatives to supplement school programs. In this day and age of decreasing state education funding, local communities are coming together to fill the gaps for our students and teachers. We are so lucky to live in a community that is always finding fun ways to get this job done.
So if you’re heading to the DIY, save a few bucks to throw in our tip jar on Saturday. If you aren’t planning to go to the DIY, why not? There will be something for everyone. But if your plans are taking you elsewhere, you can still donate to the FEF here.
Thank you for supporting FEF!
