Woman, 38, Killed in Hit and Run on Eight Mile
A 38-year-old Detroit resident died after being hit by a car Friday evening. The driver left the scene.
A 38-year-old Detroit woman was killed Friday evening after a car hit her while she was crossing the road in the Eight Mile and Pinecrest area.
The driver of the car left the scene.
The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Friday, Ferndale Police Lt. Detective William Wilson said in a statement.
"A woman walking southbound across Eight Mile between Pinecrest and Livernois was struck by a car," he said. "The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene. It appears the woman was crossing in front of traffic in a poorly lit area."
Wilson said Ferndale officers and firefighters administered first aid upon arriving to the scene and the fire department transported the victim to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak, where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Wilson said her identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
Ferndale Police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department are investigating, but Wilson said that the driver of the car was not at fault.
"It appears the driver of the vehicle was not at fault, but still fled the scene," he said. "This person who may have panicked should minimize the situation by contacting the Ferndale Police Department."
Individuals with information about this fatal hit and run are being asked to call the Ferndale Police Department at 248-541-3650.

Wow... I drove by right before that happened. I may have even seen her on the side of the road waiting to cross because I definitely saw somebody there.
Unfortunately people do this all the time and it's so dangerous. Especially at night... so sad.

It sad that a life was lost. however, people need to stop jaywalking arcoss Eight Mile, Woodward and Pinecrest. Many of these jaywalkers take their sweet time crossing and
at 5 30 a.m. in the morning its dark outside. I hope this is a wake up call. God Rest Her Soul.

Weigh your words carefully, that was my mother who had a mental disability. I don't think "Jaywalking" is the appropriate subject matter to be focusing on when reading this article. Hope this was a "wake up call".

The victim was my mother, who had a mental disability. With that being said "Jaywalking" is not the appropriate subject matter to be focusing on when reading this article. Hope that was a "wake up call".
