The Detroit Tigers and the San Francisco Giants - two of the most storied teams in Major League Baseball - will take the field Wednesday night at 8:07 p.m. at AT&T Park for Game 1 of the World Series.

While the teams are pretty evenly matched, there are some intangibles and notable qualities of the team, city and state which make the Tigers favorites in the World Series. (At least in my opinion.)

Here is why Detroit will win:

• The Tigers organization is true to our hometown. The owner, Mike Ilitch, has not moved the team to greener pastures.
• Our new ballpark has had one name, Comerica Park. How many names has the field on McCovey Cove had over the years?
• Three million fans can't be wrong.
• We have a Prince. And a batting king. The Giants have a Panda.
• Paws, a Tiger, is a mascot representing one of the most ferocious predators in the jungle. Lou Seal, represents an aquatic mammal that's dinner for large sea-going predators.
• Detroit has an island park. San Francisco has an island prison
• We have Coney dogs with onions. They have garlic fries. Maybe this is a push because both give you bad breath.
• You have Google nearby. We have Bing, not the Microsoft search engine but Mayor Dave Bing, an NBA Hall of Famer.
• We have the first Triple Crown winner since 1967.
• During World War II, Detroit was known as the Arsenal of Democracy. Consider that our pitchers are throwing fireballs and Detroit has yet another arsenal.
• Our manager Jim Leyland, a self-described "old bird," wears his heart on sleeve and gets emotional when talking about his city.
• The Tigers are as smooth as Motown and have as much horsepower as Steve McQueen's Ford Mustang, that conquered the streets of San Francisco in the movie "Bullitt."
• Justin Verlander, the 2011 MVP and Cy Young winner, is our ace.
• The Tigers represent Detroiters, a hard-working people who take their knocks and keep on fighting.
• Detroit is home to America's auto industry and put the world on wheels. The industry is roaring back, just like the Tigers during their race for the Central Division title.

When you combine these ingredients and add a pinch of desire to avenge last year's American League Championship series loss to the Texas Rangers, you can see the Tigers are a hungry bunch. Just ask the Yankees, who were swept in four straight games during this year's ALCS.

When they win, Tigers fans will celebrate like Kid Rock and show, "There ain't no party like a Detroit party."
