Wet, Heavy Snowfall Expected Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for southeast Michigan, including Ferndale.

Ferndale could get half a foot of snowfall as a storm moves through the area beginning Tuesday, with more white stuff in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for southeast Michigan beginning Tuesday afternoon, warning that 6 or more inches of wet, heavy snow could fall, creating hazardous conditions on area roadways and potentially overburdening power lines and causing outages.

Snow is in the forecast through Thursday, according to the NWS:

  • Tuesday: A high of 33 degrees, with wind gusts up to 29 miles per hour, is predicted. Snow, possibly mixed with rain, will fall during the day, turning to all snow in the afternoon. Up to 8 inches of accumulation are possible.
  • Wednesday: A high of 34 degrees is forecast, with new snow accumulation of up to 2 inches.
  • Thursday: There is a chance of snow showers with a high of 35 degrees expected.

The area will get a break from the snow Friday when the high will be 35 degrees under mostly cloudy skies, according to the forecasting agency.
