Vote Now: Ferndale Athlete of the Spring Season
Choose from a list of deserving candidates to determine who should be named the Patch Athlete of the Season for Ferndale.
Ferndale High School had plenty of outstanding athletic performances this season. Now we want to hear from our readers which one they thought was the best.
Be sure to vote by 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. Final results will be posted on June 29.
Here are the candidates:
Lexie Brisson-Fast – Senior, Ferndale High School, Soccer: Lexie Brisson-Fast helped put the Eagles’ soccer program on the map this season. She scored more than 40 goals to give Ferndale a division title and the school’s first district title. She scored two goals in a 5-0 win over Hazel Park in the district finals to bring home the championship. For her career, she scored a school-record 100-plus goals.
Danielle Hawthorne - Junior, Ferndale High School, Track and Field: Danielle Hawthorne reached All-State status in the 200-meter dash at the Division 2 state finals this year. She ran a 26.20 in the finals to finish in sixth place, just a little over a second out of first place. At regionals, she nearly won the 200-meter dash to qualify for the state finals. She finished in second place with a 25.90 behind Cranbrook Kingswood’s Karen Blake, who ran a 25.30. Hawthorne also competed in the 400-meter dash and finished 15th place with a 1:00.95.
Noah Reiter – Senior, Ferndale High School, Baseball: The pressure was on for Noah Reiter to be the ace for the Ferndale High School baseball team and he delivered. Reiter anchored the pitching staff for the Eagles and when he wasn’t on the mound he patrolled centerfield with tremendous confidence. Offensively, he batted leadoff and set the table with his speed. Games like the one he had against Southfield in the beginning of May highlighted his versatility. In an extra-inning 3-2 win, Reiter scored two runs, reached base four times and pitched two scoreless innings in relief to help his team earn the division win.
Hannah Reiter – Junior, Ferndale High School, Softball: Ferndale second baseman Hannah Reiter continues to improve her game. The third-year starter batted .419 this season to lead the Eagles in hitting and earned All-District and All-Region honors. She was All-League last season and that accolade should be coming when the coaches vote later this summer.
